Abstract: The present project will study the design and use of new types of nonlinear crystals with appropriately engineered characteristics for applications to basic physics and for new technologies. In particular, we will focus on developing new compact and efficient sources of non-classical field states and in the parallel evolution of frequency comb sources. The ultimate goal of the project will be the convergence of the two technologies in the development of frequency combs with non-classical features.

INO’s Experiments/Theoretical Study correlated:
Quantum light state engineering
Optical frequency comb generation in the mid IR

The Scientific Results:
1) Frequency-comb-referenced mid-IR sources for next-generation environmental sensors
2) Optical frequency comb assisted laser system for multiplex precision spectroscopy
3) Direct link of a mid-infrared QCL to a frequency comb by optical injection
4) Quantum optics: The quantum picture of a detector
