Abstract: The project is devoted to the study of materials for both thermal and photovoltaic solar energy exploitation approaches. The articulation of the activities is as follows:

1) Solar Thermal and Thermodynamic (with possible applications also in solar reactors for biofuels generation and hydrogen production):
The project of an apparatus for spectral measurements of solar receivers from room temperature up to 1000 ° C is going to be completed.
Such apparatus has been co-funded by the Italian bank foundation “Fondazione Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze” (2013 call) and by the Italian Ministry of Research under the project “MIUR-FIRB Supersolar” and will be the first in the Mediterranean area. It will allow to study and optimize materials for all solar thermal technologies currently under development: tower receivers with fields of heliostats, solar reactors for fuels production from biomass waste, solar parabolic trough.

2) Next Generation Photovoltaics: Development of instrumentations and characterization of wavelenght converters for photovoltaic cells. The instrumentations is perfectly suitable for the study of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) and can therefore also be used for this purpose.

All the equipment is made available to companies and research groups for measurements on materials of their own interest. The bank foundation “Fondazione Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze” finances the project SOLE through a grant for a young researcher.
