Experimental observation of Inviscid Burgers\’ equation dynamics in nonlinear fiber optics

Abstract: We report on the experimental observation of inviscid Burgers\’ equation dynamics, obtained when a properly tailored pulse propagates in an optical fiber. Experimental results show controllable pulse steepening and shock formation in excellent agreement with theory.
