Numerical modeling of bends in optical rib and double rib waveguides

Abstract: A new method is proposed to reduce radiation and transition losses in bent rib waveguides. Theoretical results have been obtained and a numerical analysis performed with the Beam Propagation Method (BPM) has been used to find total losses of the bends which have been studied. The results indicate that sharp bends with low loss should be feasible with a simple technology.
