Abstract: The newly built ultraviolet Raman-Brillouin spectrometer at the Universita’ di L’Aquila is described. We have used it to perform accurate ultraviolet and visible Brillouin spectra of glass-forming glycerol. Data with high contrast and high dynamic range in the unexplored region of wave vectors from 40 up to about 70 mum(-1) have been obtained for the first time. The spectra are analysed in terms of generalized hydrodynamics with a frequency-dependent viscosity.
