Photoionization cross section measurement in a Rb vapor cell trap

Abstract: We report the measurement of the absolute photoionization cross section of the Rb 5p(3/2) state at the wavelength of 4765 Angstrom. The utilized technique involves the change of filling rate of a magneto-optical trap induced by the presence of a photoionizing laser. The measured Value is sigma(PI) = 1.48 (22) x 10(-17) cm(-2).
