Abstract: In the present paper we describe our tests at night on the color discrimination of a group of observers (normal in photopic vision) under typical lighting conditions. Further, our results of color measurements are reported. These show how the color gamuts and the color shifts of a number of paint samples used for the facades vary when passing from daylight to some commercial lamp types. Considerations are also given to the problem of color preferences to be interpreted in the frame of aesthetics. An interesting approach could be in the direction of conceiving a City of Night quite different in colorimetric and photometric characteristics from its daylight counterpart.
