Pseudocolor effects of longitudinal chromatic aberration

Abstract: Controlled longitudinal chromatic aberration has been introduced in an optical imaging system to enhance wavelength dispersion according to a monotonic law. System general characteristics are outlined, and performance particularities are presented as pseudocolor effects in visual observation. An example of application to metrology is given, encoding the surface height distribution of a sample. Spectrographic decoding provides the profile information.
