Primary activity: IC research activity is focused on the three-dimensional reconstruction of intact neuronal networks and cardiac conduction system, with cellular resolution, of whole mouse brain and heart and human brain samples using light sheet microscopy with two-photon fluorescence microscopy. To this aim, she is developing new clearing methods to obtain transparent samples that are macromolecule-permeable and compatible with fluorescence immunostaining.

Main experiences acquired: Biology: comparative anatomy and cytology. Sample preparation with tissue clearing, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques. Biophysics (optics): analysis of the sample with confocal fluorescence microscopy, two photons, sheet of light and transmission electron microscopy. Translational and genetic biology (study of neuroanatomical alterations related to mutations of various pathways: e.g. mTOR, management of transgenic mice line), molecular biology: extraction of DNA from murine tissue, PCR, gel electrophoresis, microsurgery on transgenic animals.
