Primary activity: I am an experimental physicist specialized on the basic research of dilute quantum gases and quantum phases. I am part of a team working with the novel Fermi-Fermi mixture of Li6-Cr53 in the ultra-low temperature regime. We have thoroughly characterized the inter-species properties of the mixture and we can produce a double-degenerate mixture with T/TF=0.3 and about 10^5 atoms per species. We currently optimize the production of hetero-nuclear (Feshbach) molecules and investigate their properties. Our system has the potential to observe the BEC-BCS crossover with mass-imbalance, to investigate strongly repulsive (Stoner) Ferromagnetism, Polaron physics, p-wave pairing and stable exotic (non-Evimovian) trimer states. I am also involved in a new experiment for the generation of ultracold molecules and I am part of a consortium with industry to build the first quantum computer in Italy. Additional interest is the development of new technologies needed for such experiments. I have developed a low-cost and versatile FPGA-based control system which is now used in several experiments.

Main experiences acquired: Basic experimental research on degenerate fermions (Li6, Cr53 and K40) and bosons (Cr52, K39), and Fermi-Fermi mixtures (Li6-K40 and Li6-Cr53). Design, setting up and development of new technologies for such experiments: analog/digital/RF/low-noise electronics, FPGA hardware and software development, ultrahigh-vaccum systems, laser technologies, frequency doubling, optics, imaging technologies, measurement and analysis, control systems hardware/software, programming of Linux device driver.
