Abstract: We experimentally compare the performance of the SSMF and UltraWave™ fibers for ULH 40 Gb/s WDM transmissions, with both the CSRZ-ASK and CSRZ-DPSK modulation formats. We show that ULH transmission distances (>2000 km) can be reached on SSMF by using the CSRZ-DPSK format only, thus proving that SSMF-based infrastructure of incumbent carriers can be used at 40 Gb/s channel rates on ULH distances.
