Abstract: A second-harmonic interferometer based on a CW Nd:YAG laser is presented. The device is extremely compact and versatile and is developed for line-integrated electron density measurements in large plasma machines. A sensitivity in measuring line-integrated electron density of 4 x 10(13) cm(-2) with time resolution of 8 mu s, and 10(13) cm(-2) with time resolution of 50 mu s, is demonstrated.
