Abstract: The low-energy emission in the A-band of KCl: Pb2+ represents an interesting and puzzling case that has not yet received a satisfactory interpretation. By employing a laser technique for exciting the sample, this band emission is strongly enhanced, especially at low temperatures, thus making possible a more convincing interpretation, always within the framework of a well established model based on the Jahn-Teller effect.
