Description

In the Quantum Diamond Nanoengineering Lab we study the quantum dynamics of spins in the solid state, both for fundamental quantum science and for realizing new-generation quantum technologies at the nanoscale. We combine quantum optics and advanced magnetic resonance tools to detect and manipulate the spin of optically-active defects in diamond — so-called color centers, as well as to explore and control their interaction with the magnetic and spin environment. We leverage on the exquisite experimental control of the spin state of color centers to build quantum-enhanced sensors that outperform classical ones, with a strong focus on novel imaging schemes for biological applications. In addition, we are interested in exploring and controlling thermodynamic processes in spin systems at the nanoscales, where quantum effects play a major role.
