Abstract: Attention has been recently focused on three-mirror telescopes. The purpose of the present paper is to explore the range of acceptable configurations in terms of achievable apertures, fields and vignetting, as a function of the gaussian parameters. The achievable quality of the image over this range has been explored by computing the residual maximal root mean square of the wave-front error for typical cases, and the limits within which a diffraction limited performance can be expected, are discussed.
