Abstract: Thanks to the advent of optical frequency comb synthesizers, based on femto-second mode-locked lasers, the field of optical frequency metrology has experienced an extraordinary growth, producing outstanding results in precision spectroscopy and opening new perspectives in different metrological branches. After introducing the basic concepts, systems and experiments, we overview the most significant achievements in this fast expanding field.
