Abstract: The purpose of SUPERACI is the realization a new generation of quantum devices based on superfluid atomic currents, in optical circuits. Specifically, we aim to produce an ultracold atomic mixture (87Rb-41K) with tunable interactions, confined in an optical ring trap where we will induce and study superfluid currents of both species. The project has potential both for basic science and technological applications.
The observation of superfluid currents of quantum gas mixtures has never been observed. Although this stands as a risk factor for the project, the impact, in case of success, will be of fundamental importance since mutually interacting superfluids are at the heart of quantum effects relevant not only to condensed matter but also to astrophysics.
