Abstract: The two monocular EOG tracings, recorded simultaneously while reading printed material, are compared. We neglect the return sweep and we consider the patterns of the eye movements (jumps, fixation pauses, regresiions) as a whole, by adopting as index of similiarity in shape the correlation coefficient r, estimated for thetwo sets of (30) monocular amplitude values each. We find that r is high under good viewing conditions, but drops below thet significance level either under contrast degradation or under increased text diffuculty. It is hoped that the above approach might be of value in some ergo-ophthalmolgical application.
