Abstract: We report on the realization and comprehensive characterization of a single-frequency Cr2+:ZnSe laser tunable from 2350 to 2750 nm, with optimized performance near 2689 nm, in coincidence with the R(0) transition in the 1-0 rovibrational band of the hydrogen deuteride (HD) molecule. The laser is pumped by an amplified single-frequency laser at 1560 nm, and it is based on a compact linear cavity with a 2-GHz free spectral range. It delivers a maximum output power of 30 mW with an emission linewidth <1.1 MHz over a 1 ms integration time and a relative intensity noise as low as 0.12% in an integration bandwidth from 1 Hz to 100 MHz. The emission frequency can be finely tuned over more than 5 GHz using a fast piezoelectric actuator. (c) 2026 Optica Publishing Group.
