Abstract: A discussion about the telescopes of seventeenth-century Italy is presented. Working with glass that was often of poor quality, seventeenth-century artisans developed sophisticated instruments for astronomical and terrestrial observation. The researchers have used modern instruments to analyze a number of early lenses.
