Abstract: An optical-fiber nonlinear coupler may permit all-optical switching of a soliton pulse by a much weaker control pulse. The sharp switching characteristics of the entire soliton energy that are obtained by varying the peak power or the phase of the weak pulse do not critically depend on the exact values of the soliton power or relative phase.
