Abstract: Cross-phase-modulation-induced instability and collisions lead to a minimum channel spacing in dispersionmanaged wavelength-division-multiplexed nonreturn-to-zero transmissions. We obtain a simple analytical description of these instabilities and confirm the results by numerical simulations.
