The work presented in the paper “Musical instrument pick-up based on a laser locked to an optical fiber resonator”, recently published on Optics Express (Opt. Express, 19, 25, 25057-25065, 2011), has appeared in the News and Views of Nature Photonics (Vol. 6, Feb. 2012).
The original paper describes an acoustic pickup based on an FBG fiber optic resonator. A DFB laser is locked to the cavity using the Pound-Drever-Hall technique. The optical pickup is embedded into the musical instrument body. The audio information transported by the cavity reflected radiation is extracted from the servo correction signal.
The work has been developed in collaboration with the Loock Laser Laboratory, Queen’s University, Kingston, ON, Canada.
