The Calibration laboratory INO Centro SIT 130
has today reached 10 years of age (12/15/2000 – 15/12/2010). In this period it has provided a certification, consulting and testing service – and research in the field of
optical metrology. Of particular importance, as reported by Optics Express: Optics in 2010, the measured stability of the silica glass at room temperature. Based on the high temperature behavior and extrapolation, this effect has been attributed to a glass viscosity in the order of magnitude of 10^40-10^41 Pa s; the observed value is around 10^17-10^18 Pa s, 23 orders of magnitude lower. However, it is the higher viscosity ever measured in a laboratory.
