Quantum simulation and information with trapped ions and ultracold atoms
The research group works in the field of quantum simulation and quantum information by using a hybrid system of ultracold atoms and trapped ions. The aim of our research is to exploit atom-ion interactions at ultralow temperatures to study the joint evolution of atoms-ions systems. This goal will be reached by implementing a novel atom-ion hybrid system that can surpass the current experimental limitations which have so far prevented to reach the ultracold regime in atom-ion interactions. We plan to reach full control in atom-ion interactions and to exploit this control to quantum simulate condensed matter models based on single localized impurities in a many-body system.
