Cooling effects induced by stimulated emission in the discharge of CO2 lasers

Abstract: The gas temperature distribution in a CO2 laser tube with longitudinal de excitation is investigated by means of an infrared camera. The heat-conduction equation including a loss term with gaussian profile can model the experimentally observed cooling effect induced by stimulated emission.
