Solar energy materials
The activity is focused on the characterization of optical properties of new materials for solar applications. Investigated materials are solids, liquids, thin films and nanostructures. An extremely wide spectral range is available for the analysis, from 200 to about 50000 nm. Moreover, a new experimental facility is under development, to allow the spectral characterization of thermal emittance up to 1000°C temperature.
The main research topics are:
1) Bulk solar absorbers for ultra-high temperature thermal solar plants;
2) Novel nanoparticle-based fluids (nanofluids) for direct solar absorbers in mid-temperature solar concentrating plants;
3) Wavelength converters for photovoltaics
