Analysis of synchronous intensity modulation control of 40Gbit/s dispersion-managed soliton transmissions

Abstract: An optimization of the transmission control of dispersion-managed (DM) solitons by means of synchronous intensity modulation is presented. It is shown that intensity modulation (IM) stabilizes the pulse energy without the need for guiding filters whenever the modulators are properly located in the dispersion map.
