Abstract: The observation of diamond-like light spots produced by surface bubbles obliquely illuminated is reported. The phenomenon is discussed in terms of geometrical optics, and an explanation is provided attributing the effect to the astigmatism introduced by the deformation of the liquid surface surrounding the bubble. An essential ray tracing program is outlined and used to reconstruct the observed phenomenon numerically.
