Abstract: The measurement of the volcanic gases with a diode-laser-based spectrometer was discussed. Optical fibers and distributed-feedback (DFB) semiconductor diode lasers as coherent sources were used. The sensitivity and accuracy for CO2 detection was improved by ~2 orders of magnitude. It was found that the spectrometer could operate for long periods when powered with batteries and solar panels.
